alt.vinyl is run by a very small team online...bear with us unless we are out listening to music we'll normally get to orders etc..same day.

postage rates and policies

Below are our current postage rates. If you are ordering via the website you will have the chance to select these postage amounts at the checkout stage. We reserve the right to charge supplemental postage for oversized or exceptionally heavy items.

• UK postage & packaging:
  • first 7"/cd £2.00 + 75p each thereafter
  • first 10”/12"/LP £3.00 + £1.25 each thereafter
  • signed for: above rates + £0.85p per order
  • special delivery/insured (up to 2kg): add £3.50 to the above rates
• Europe postage & packaging:
  • first 7"/cd £3.00 + £1.50 each thereafter
  • first 10”/12"/LP £5.50 + £2.00 each thereafter
  • international signed for/insured (up to 2kg): add £5.00 to the above rates
• USA, Japan & Rest of World postage & packaging:
  • first 7"/cd £4.00 + £1.75p each thereafter
  • first 10”/12"/LP £7.50 + £3.00 each thereafter
  • international signed for/insured (up to 2kg): add £5.00 to the above rates

All UK deliveries are sent by 1st class post; all overseas deliveries by airmail. We aim to send all orders out within 24 hours of receipt.

Insurance cover for large or particularly valuable items can be arranged at extra cost. Please contact us at info@altvinyl.com

All items are packed in robust card mailers to the highest industry standards.

Note: To safeguard our customers and due to high incidences of postal problems we will only send to latin america, africa, the middle east and asia (excl. japan) if packages are fully insured.

alt.vinyl 30-day returns guarantee

At alt.vinyl we want you to be delighted every time you shop with us. Occasionally though, we know you may want to return items.

Our 30-day returns guarantee means that if for any reason you are unhappy with your purchase, you can return it to us in its original condition within 30 days of the date you received the item, unopened (with any seals and shrink-wrap intact) and we will issue a full refund for the price you paid for the item.

Please note: We can only accept the return of opened items if they are faulty. We are unable to exchange items that are not damaged, defective or incorrect.

items lost in the post

Very occasionally items do go missing in the post. Regretfully we cannot accept responsibility for lost / undelivered items sent by standard 1st class post or airmail. For this reason we strongly recommend that you choose 'signed for / special delivery' in the UK or 'international signed for' when items are being sent abroad, particularly for larger orders or more expensive items.

items damaged in the post

Sometimes, again very infrequently, parcels get squashed, bent and generally bashed up in the post. If your order arrives damaged then you need to claim with your post-office - keep a hold of the packaging as they'll need to see that.

All parcels leave here in a secure, sturdy, safe condition. If the royal mail damage your parcel, it's their responsibility to sort it out.

payments via the website

When you have finished choosing the titles you want please click on checkout.  Once you have the total including postage you can by PayPal.

All PayPal payments should be sent to info@altvinyl.com, our recipient address.

Please note that all paypal payments will attract a 4% surcharge to cover commissions.

If alternatively you wish to pay by other means we do accept cheques drawn on UK banks and, at your risk, cash. If you are going to send cash please contact us to ensure that we are ok with the currency you are sending. Remember to conceal it well and again, please realise that this is a very insecure way of paying and entirely at your risk.

stock displayed

At any given time the stock displayed on this site should mirror the stock we have physically in our shop. Everything we have is on our database and this, and our site, is updated daily.

What we are saying is that we only list stuff that we have in stock and ready to sell. Many of our titles however are quite limited in number and some titles go very fast! We always do our best to keep up!

If you wish to pre-order forthcoming releases and know what you want or wish to discuss it with us please just get in touch. Similarly if you want us to search for items for you from our network of worldwide contacts that is fine too, just call or email.

We buy second hand vinyl, cds, cassettes, 78s and 8 tracks etc..

If you have a collection that you are looking to sell please get in touch. We will travel to you and give honest, open appraisals of what your collection is worth.We pay top trade prices and will happily give you cash or trade for items you may want from our store.

Whether your collection is psych, blues, folk, avant jazz, punk or techno just get in touch..we’ll take it from there.
